Recession Special!

In a time when the holiday season is looming, unemployment levels are rising, budgets are shrinking, and Spamburgers are the new craze... I realized that I haven't noticed the effects of recession until today. It's interesting to see businesses offer crazy deals that would have been unthinkable in times of prosperity. Black Friday isn't even here yet! For example, American Eagle never had huge sales until recently. And when I say huge, I mean really HUGE. Like, 50% off + an additional 25%. Aeropostale is currently offering 50-70% off on all merchandise. That means I can get a sweater for $15 (Retail Price: $39.99). Apple, this Friday, will be having a big Black Friday sale. (Has Apple had sales before?) McDonalds is offering 2 egg sandwiches for $3 and Burger King is offering 2 fish sandwiches for $4. I can get a 500 gig external harddrive for $79.99 (1tb for 169.99 if you really have that much porn to store :P JKJK) and lots lots more. Bargains are everywhere! Now is definitely the time to buy that cardigan sweater or external harddrive I've always wanted but was too cheap to get.

My favorite bargain of the day was when I went to 금강산(KumGangSan). I've been here about 3x before in my life, but I have NEVER seen it offer so many side dishes, large portions, or interesting delicacies before.

Sadly enough, I forgot my camera cable back at school so I will describe some of the jaw-dropping service/complimentary food I received for lunch.

1. There were about 9 side dishes. I distinctly remember getting only 4 back in the day when we weren't so worried about money at KumGangSan. They presented the usual kimchi, potato fruit salad, and other veggies. I thought there was no more, but the food just kept on coming. We also got the dried small fish (anchovies?) that I love so much, an entire mackerel (fish), roasted pumpkin, 1 bowl of delicious soft tofu, and Molokhia tofu. That's more than I've ever seen (side dishes-wise) from an order that did not involve korean barbeque. And might I add that it was all DELICIOUS. Dessert consisted of delicate fruit jellies that made me very very happy.

2. My order of Spicy Cod Fish Roe Casserole was huge. I barely finished 1/5 of it. I know I don't eat that much, but the amount of casserole in my bowl was definitely upped. Interestingly enough, the rice that came with my order wasn't in its usual tin bowl. Instead, it was in a hot stoneware bowl usually used for hot Bi Bim Bap, decorated with chunks of dried fruit and sweet potato on top. I've never seen more appetizing white rice. (lol)

3. Hudson's Bi Bim Bap was very big and delicious. Aha, that sounded dirty. :P But really, there was a lot of food in that bowl of beef, vegetables, and rice.

4. The bill came out to 25.90 total. Hudson looked at it and exclaimed "Haha! Recession Special!"

I totally agree.

SO while you're busy bemoaning the sad sad economy, go out and SHOP SHOP til you drop (or at least get those things you really wanted) because I don't think you'll see bargains like this for a while once the economy is back on track!

Have a great Thanksgiving! :):) Gobble Gobble!

  1. actually $160 would be a rip off for a 1tb external. I can get one for $100. I got a 400 gb hd for 40 bucks earlier last year. lots of porn.
